Art Journal Page with Ornate Butterfly

Welcome everyone, Ingrid, here for today’s post with the Art journal Specials collection. This one will be my first one, after being on the design team for over 3 years now. Hopefully, I may give you some inspiration working with the coolest ArtJournal item!

I have made a mixed media Art Journal page with the lovely Butterfly from the latest release, Journal Elements. Let me take you through the next steps.

Step 1.

I took some A4 size black cardstock which I treated with different colors distress oxide sprays. I have used Victorian Velvet, Spiced Marmelade, and Fired Brick, all from Ranger. After that, I sprayed some water and dried it with the heat gun. It curled up a bit, but after some more heating, it turned flat again.

Step 2.

Here I took out one of the stencils, Journal Stencils 3. I like those plusses. I have used some crackle paste, by Ranger, through that stencil with a spatula. The color of the white paste took the color of the oxides. After drying I discided to give it some more color with the oxidesprays.

Step 3.

The page I diecutted with the deckled edge page from the Lost in the woods special. To brighten up the colors i have used the normal distressoxides and blended them on the paper. The outsides I distressed with some Vintage Photo, Ground Espresso and Black Soot. I took out a sandingtool and sanded some bits to give it a little used look.

Step 4.

Here is the beautiful butterfly, the solid one of the Ornate Butterfly set, coming in. I die cutted it out of the corner of the page. For behind that butterfly spot I created another page. The same deckled page out of black card stock. I took the script stamp, Script from the past, and used it with Versamark and white embossing powder. After that i glued the black page behind the colored page. I die cutted the wings of the butterfly out of a leftover of the black card stock.

Step 5.

I glued the the black wings with a small stripe of glue in the middle of the solid butterfly. I folded them a bit, so they stand up a bit. After then I glued the butterfly, with a small stripe in the middle again, on to the middle of the punched out butterfly, right on top of the embossed script. I cut one of the phrases from the stamp set Journal Phrases 3, glued them on a black border and put it on the page with a stapler, with some cheese cloth underneath. For the finishing touch, I splattered some black and ochre acrylic paint.

I hope you got some inspiration with this great collection of the Art Journal Specials. Thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you next time.

Happy crafting!

Love Ingrid.
